Welcome to My Garden is My Space
Welcome to My Garden is MY Space. No, that is not a typing error. The second MY is in capitals for a reason. My garden IS my space. I cannot claim the garden as mine; I am only borrowing it from Mother Nature. One day she will take it back but for now she is letting me pretend that it is mine to fashion to my liking.
My garden is my hobby and my escape. Some see their garden as a chore, something that has to be done to keep the place looking tidy. Full marks for keeping it tidy but it must feel like hard work. Of course there are those who just don't bother. Don't you feel sorry for their neighbours! Next door probably take a pride in their garden only to see weed seeds floating over and weeds trying to invade under the hedge or fence.
Some modern day television gardening programmes have put the idea in first time gardeners' minds that you can create a garden in two days. Well, yes you can but it still has to be maintained. Also it is very tempting to miss out much of the preparation work and that can be a short term saving but will create much work in the future.
Me? I like to plan a piece of my garden, not to the extent of graph paper and a box of watercolours, but have a rough plan. Walk away and come back later and have another think about it. Still a good idea? Yes, full steam ahead. If not, play around with it until it does make sense. I want the basic structure to be there for some time and that enables me to change the odd plant or shrub to improve the effect or just to replace anything that has died. If the 'create a garden over the weekend 'programmes introduces people to gardening and get them hooked, great. Unfortunately I fear that many will be dissatisfied and Mother Nature will very quickly claim back that which is rightfully hers.

So what can you expect to see in these pages?
Expert views and answers to every gardening query no matter how obscure? No, not exactly. Not from me anyway. I class myself as a talented amateur who has a love of gardening and nature in general and has learned much from the University of Life. Anyway, the one thing you can guarantee about gardening is that you will never know everything no matter how long you do it.
I will be including articles about my gardening experiences , my likes and dislikes , my triumphs and my failures and the wildlife visitors to my garden (so that you can maybe avoid the failures).
The wildlife in my space means so much to me. Not only is much of the wildlife beneficial but it provides much enjoyment and amusement.
My garden diary will be updated regularly and I will be including what has happened in the garden over the last week and talking about topical issues. Feel free to comment, I would love to hear your views.
But don't be shy. We want to hear from you. Write to me about your garden and your triumphs. Send pictures. We will include as many as possible.
We hope you enjoy reading and becoming an active member of My Garden is my Space.
